The superconducting transition temperature $$T_{rm c}$$ in the spin-triplet superconductor UTe$$_2$$ increases from the initial reported value of 1.6 K to 2.0 K as the newly reported one improving the growth condition. We have developed a growth method for the superconductor UTe$$_2$$ that is different from the usual chemical vapor phase transport method. As a result, we have succeeded in growing high-purity UTe$$_2$$ crystals at $$T_{rm c}$$=2.1 K and confirmed that the residual specific heat below $$T_{rm c}$$ is very low and the residual ratio of electrical resistance is very large. We report the optimization of the newly developed method for UTe$$_2$$.

Single crystal growth and precise phase diagram of superconducting UTe$$_2$$

High-quality UTe$$_2$$ single crystals were grown using a molten salt flux method with the highest reported superconducting (SC) transition temperature. The crystals had a small residual electronic contribution in specific heat and a large residual resistivity ratio. The SC phase diagram of UTe$$_2$$ was studied, revealing contrasting field-angular dependence of low and high-field SC phases. An intermediate SC state was also found. The high-field SC phase appeared consistently at about 15 T, while crystal quality increased the upper critical field of the low-field superconducting phase. The MSF method facilitated the observation of quantum oscillations and progress in Fermi surface research for this spin-triplet superconductor.

High-quality UTe$$_2$$ single crystal growth and superconducting phase diagram

Sakai, Hironori

no journal, ,

In this talk, I will briefly introduce the growth of high-purity single crystals of the novel superconductor UTe$$_2$$ using the molten salt flux method. Additionally, we will present the superconducting phase diagram when applying a magnetic field along the crystal's $$b$$-axis, corresponding to the magnetic hard axis, using a high-purity single crystal with a superconducting transition temperature $$T{rm c}$$ = 2.1 K.
